Northern poll - Military seeks support for government: EPDP nominates 9 candidates

SriLanka government paid special attention on northern provincial council election,      political analysts said.

At present road development activities and renovations were carried out in the Jaffna peninsula. Military personals have visited houses in the town area and collect information’s on family members. They also request people cast vote towards ruling party. Members of EPDP contesting under the UPFA ticket distribute special leaflets on their party policy to people. Politicians from the south nominate most influence personalities in the area as candidates of their respective parties. In order to increase vote bank of Muslim community Muslim politicians have taken steps to resettle Muslim people from the east in the Northern Province. However Tamil people are currently waiting for final announcement by TNA on the election conversing process in the upcoming election. EPDP nominates 9 candidates EPDP which is schedule to contest under the UPFA ticker permitted to nominate 10 candidates in the northern provincial council election. 19 candidates would be contest in the election, among them 10 schedule contest under minister Douglas Devananda. 7 candidates would be contest under United People Freedom Alliance while 2 will contest under All Island Muslim Congress lead by the minister Rishad Bathiudeen. However final decision on chief ministerial candidate would be announce on July 25.
