Thamilini will be joining the SLFP

The former LTTE women's political wing leader Thamilini will be joining the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) next week, say the internal sources of SLFP.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa who was on a five-day state visit to Tanzania and Seychelles Islands arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (02) and he will be consulted today regarding the matter to obtain his permission. It has been reported that, following the obtaining of SLFP membership she will be contesting for North provincial council election. Speaking to media SLFP general secretary Maithripala Sirisena announced all the nominees should be appear before the selection committee. In 2009 following the end of the civil war Thamilini was arrested at Vavuniya on May 20th and was detained for a long period on detention orders. After one year of rehabilitation at the Poonthottam camp in Vawuniya, she was released on June 26th.
