Illegal gambling club raided in Colombo: 83 arrested

Over 80 persons were arrested last night (July 1) following a police raid on an illegal gambling club on Dharmapala Mawatha in Colombo 7, the Police Media Spokesman’s office stated.

Police arrested 80 suspects who were gambling at the club while three persons suspected to run the club which had no valid license, were also arrested. The Police Media Spokesman’s office also reported that the police seized Rs.95,000 from the club, four card packs, a table and six chairs. The raid was conducted at around 7pm last night on a warrant given by the Maligakanda court. The suspects will be presented to the Maligakanda Magistrate court today (July 2).
