Political parties Rs 42.6 M due to SLRC

The Auditor General (AG) had reported to Parliament that Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), the State television channel, had not taken any measures to recover a sum of Rs 42,649,586 (Forty two million, six hundred and forty nine thousand, five hundred and eighty six rupees) due from various political parties that used its services for their propaganda activities during elections.The report filed by the AG to the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), had highlighted the failure on the part of SLRC in this regard.
The report also notes the non-recovery of payment due from political parties that had bought air time from the corporation during elections in the recent past, had been reported to Parliament on earlier occasions as well.
The COPE headed by Minister D.E.W. Gunasekera, had mentioned the names of the political parties, which had defaulted in payment, and recommended that action be taken against the parties concerned to recover monies due to SLRC
